This Winter Welcome Week, do more than just return to campus and participate in the Rise Against Hunger Experience as a volunteer packing meal boxes for communities in need. Rise Against Hunger is a non-profit organization dedicated to combating hunger in countries around the world. Along with providing meals, they also engage in the implementation of sustainable community development projects to build resilience, self-sufficiency and empowerment in communities world wide.
The Leadership and Civic Engagement Office at NC State has partnered with Rise Against Hunger to recruit students looking to contribute to something bigger than themselves this semester. Along with participating in a meal packing event, Leadership and Civic Engagement representatives will also take time to empower you with the tools you need to engage in civic service and volunteerism, participate in leadership development programs at NC State, and network with other like-minded students in a fun, safe, socially-distant atmosphere.
By signing up to this event, you will be participating in one of 4 shifts. NOTE: You must RSVP to reserve your spot.
- Shift 1: Starts at 1:45pm - Will help unload materials from truck to prep for the main event. Some items being moved may be atleast 50lbs in weight. Duration of shift is 1 hour. 5 slots are available.
- Shift 2 and 3: Start times are either 3:00pm or 4:30pm, and will take place at the Coastal Ballroom. Volunteers will help box meal packages and learn more about Rise Against Hunger. Each shift has only 25 slots available and will last about 1.5 hours.
- Shift 4: Starts at 5:30pm - Volunteers will help load truck with materials from the main event. Some heavy lifting of items weighing about 50lbs may be required. Shift is expected to last 30 minutes to 45 minutes.
All shifts will be provided with additional information about Rise Against Hunger and volunteering opportunities at NCSU for the Spring semester. Volunteers may choose to participate in just one or multiple shifts. We ask that you arrive prior to the listed start times.
This event will count toward your volunteer hours. The event will fall within the guidelines set forth by the University and State Safety Guidelines. ALL PARTICIPANTS MUST WEAR A FACE MASK and work stations will be set to help maintain social distancing standards.
As a participant, you will help assemble meal boxes that will later be shipped out to communities in need around the world. Your work is essential to Rise Against Hungers mission. No experience is required.
Show the power of the Wolfpack and take part in a great cause this Winter Welcome Week!
