Cuddlers interact with the animals that are ineligible to leave their kennel. For example, certain dogs may be ineligible to be walked outside due to age, health, medication, or length of time at the shelter. Socialization is especially important for kittens and puppies, shy adults, and those who need help with basic manners. Cuddling gives the animals the chance to stretch their legs and receive love and attention. This position helps excited dogs learn how to be calm around new people (not every interaction leads to a walk outside) and helps anxious cats trust new people, which can prevent scratching and biting habits from forming.
