Who We Are
SoSA is a non-profit that works to minimize both food insecurity and food waste all over NC. We know that there are millions of pounds of edible produce that go unharvested each year in NC alone because it does not meet grocery store standards. We also know that over 1.5 million people in NC are considered food insecure. We partner with farmers, feeding agencies and volunteers to get more fresh produce into communities that do not have consistent access to this resource.
What We Do
We GLEAN! And by glean, we mean we gather groups of volunteers to harvest produce that is perfectly edible, but not considered commercially viable (aka the "ugly produce"). The food our volunteers harvest is then distributed to local feeding agencies that work with members of our community who are food insecure.
